Bloom Where You Are Planted
I've learned that I don't particularly enjoy every part of everything I'm called to do.
And that's okay.
Purpose doesn't require me to enjoy every responsibility.
It requires me to steward it.
That's an important distinction.
Because sometimes we think:
“This doesn't feel like my gift.”
Maybe not.
But is it part of your assignment?
Whew.
If it is, somebody still has to do it.
And if I'm on a team, I can't continually choose the work I enjoy while expecting everyone else to carry what I don't.
That's not teamwork.
That's not leadership.
And that's certainly not stewardship.
I've also learned to be careful about constantly looking for better soil.
Sometimes better soil exists.
And sometimes I need to water the ground I'm standing on.
Every uncomfortable season isn't evidence that I'm in the wrong place.
Some places have taught me things I never would have learned if I'd left the first time I became uncomfortable.
So I've learned to ask:
God, am I supposed to leave or am I supposed to grow?
Those are very different questions.
Because sometimes the breakthrough isn't another opportunity.
Sometimes it's finally developing the roots necessary to sustain the opportunity that's coming.
